Adele Gordon
On 1st March 2008, the East London Clarinet Choir gave a performance of Paul Harvey's Concertino for soprano saxophone and clarinet choir. Our soloist for the evening was Adele Gordon:
Adele Gordon began playing the clarinet at the age of twelve, moving onto the saxophone much later in 1998. She has never studied music but that hasn’t stopped her from working with some of the busiest amateur and professional music groups in the United Kingdom. Until she got too old, Adele played Bass and Eb clarinets in the British Youth Wind Orchestra, and more recently soprano saxophone in the National Saxophone Choir. Concert schedules have taken her to the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Barbican & St Martins-in-the-Fields, performing in several recordings, sound tracks, videos, live TV in addition to extensive touring in the UK and overseas. In 1988 Adele joined the BBC Elstree Concert band and now holds the position of principal clarinet there. She also plays Eb in the Ionian and Ealing clarinet choirs, soprano and baritone saxophones in the sax ensemble “Simply Saxes”. In demand as a ‘dep’ she performs with a variety of different bands and orchestras in addition to being one of the founder members of the East London Clarinet Choir. In 2002 Adele was delighted to be asked to play for the Queen at a Royal garden party celebrating the Golden Jubilee and in just a few weeks will be heading off to New York to perform in Carnegie Hall. |
